1 : Lighting & Acoustic Performance Evaluation & Design

Objective

  1. To understand the lighting and acoustic characteristics in a restaurant

  2. To critically report and analyse the suitability of the space for the designated function.

Learning Outcome

  1. Introduction to the function and usage of Lux and Sound Meter

  2. Ability to produce a complete documentation on analysis of space in relation to lighting and acoustic requirement as stated in MS1525

  3. Analysis of factors which effects the lighting and acoustic design of a space.

  4. Explore and apply understanding of building physic eg. Lighting towards building / construction technology and building materials on existing building projects.

  5. Basic understanding and analysis of lighting layout and arrangements by using Lumen method and PSALI calculations

  6. Basic understanding and analysis of acoustic design layout and arrangements by using reverberation time and sound transmission coefficient.

2 : Integration

Learning Outcome

  1. To integrate the previous learnings on artificial lighting and daylighting into the final design

  2. To be able to solve design problems in relation to sustainability issues

  3. To be able to design spaces incorporating artificial and daylighting

  4. Propose suitable building materials, light fittings, layout and lighting strategy based on Lumen Method and PSALI calculations into the chosen space
