1 : A Case Study

This project requires us to conduct a case study on South of Market San Fransisco, and analyse its aspects in relation to walkability. We were to produce critical perspectives on important issues in relation to urbanism and architecture. It is also to enhance our understanding on the complex matters of cities through theoretical studies and independent research.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Analyse architecture and urban forms in relation to relevant architecture theories.

  2. Analyse and critique the relationship between architecture and its social ,cultural and intellectual context

  3. Produce , orally and in writing , a critical interpretation i of architecture and urbanism in relation to relevant theories within the contemporary discourse of architecture.

2 : Comparative Analysis

From the findings we have gathered from project 1, this preoject requires us to conduct a comparative analysis between South of Market, San Fransisco and Petaling Street, Kuala lumpur. This is to clearly understand the similarities and differences between these two cities, depending on how the town sprouted and to whom it caters to. The project tests our critical thinking skills and our abilities to translate our thoughts into text and diagrams.

3 :  Assessments

The assessment requires us to analyse a series of texts relating to theories of architecture and produce a 300 word reaction paper that describes our thoughts and opinions on it. The exercise tests our ability to understand, critically analyse and interpret out thoughts freely on paper. It teaches us the importance of freedom of thought, by producing reaction papers with opinions that have either no wrong or right, so long as we are able to back it up with evidence.
