1 : The Art of Adaptation

The project requires us to read, understand and translate the chosen chapter from the text of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. The aim of the project is to experiment with different means of storytelling. It encourages us to push boundaries while dissecting something as two-dimensional as a written text.

Learning Outcome

  1. 1. Critically analyse a theme or subject matter from an artistic mediums. Focus only on three elements. (e.g. art/architecture/film/literature)

  2. Source, cite and discuss themes and references from fields related to the current and contemporary context that are significant in re-telling of stories

  3. Re-present the story in a graphical approach based on the contemporary context of time

2 : Observing The Everyday

In relation to project 1, we were given a site in Kuala Lumpur to explore and relate back to the themes we have discussed in Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. A series of photographs from the site were compiled into a photo and book in order to capture the essence and issues pertaining to the site.

Learning Outcome

  1. Critically analyse the Greater KL

  2. Use appropriate materials and methods of research in the process of observing the Greater KL

3 : Re-synthesized An Experiment

The final project requires us to visualize Masjid India within the span of 25, 50 and 100 years into the future, based on the issues we have chosen in the previous exercise. The main idea is to force us to creatively think beyond our capabilities and translate those ideas into a visual form.

Learning Outcome

  1.  Understand the process of translating ideas through the process of creative adaptation.

  2.  Apply learnt skills and techniques in an exercise of creative adaptation (video/model)
